ECDC is a parent run cooperative preschool.  This means that the school is managed and operated by the parents, teachers and director.  This philosophy is based on the belief that the participation of parents in the management, decision making and the classroom enhances and diversifies the learning experience of our children.

Each family (defined as: mom, dad, caregiver, aunt, uncle, grandparent, etc.) involved in the ECDC community has something to give: some set of skills, experiences or talent they can share with the children to help expand their learning experience.  This is also a time when you can share traditions that reflect your family background.  It is the commitment and dedication of our families that makes our children’s preschool experience outstanding.

ECDC offers a chance to be involved in your child's preschool experience.  Parents or primary caregivers are encouraged to participate in the classroom regularly throughout the school year. There will be sign up sheets posted on the bulletin board for parent participation.  All families are responsible for signing up for the correct number of times and if possible find a replacement if they cannot fulfill their commitment on a specific day.  Siblings may not be brought to school on these days.  The number of times that participation is expected during the year is as follows:

Number of days per week

that child attends

Number of times per year

that parent helping is expected

7 – 9

A Parent Orientation night will be held at the start of each school year to familiarize families of school policies and procedures and describe the responsibilities of all volunteers.  All volunteers are required to submit to a CORI and DSS background check.  Every child eagerly anticipates their "Special Day", when their Mom, Dad, Grandparent, or primary caregiver, will be in class with them.  When you come to school keep in mind the following:

  • Participate in all activities.
  • Follow guidelines and tone set by the teacher, if you are not sure ASK!
  • Leave discipline to the teachers.
  • Treat each child with respect and accept his/her work enthusiastically.
  • Never discuss a child in front of him/her.
  • Assist in regular routines: snack, cleanup, circle time, and hand washing using the "Germ Buster" method (posted in the bathroom).
  • When near the art area, assist with smocks and hand washing.
  • Please wipe down tables and sweep or vacuum floors after snack.
  • Help tidy up the room at the end of each session.
  • Remember:  Your child may not act "normal or regular" on his/her "Special Day".
  • Enjoy yourself.
In keeping with the spirit of a cooperative preschool, families will also be asked to volunteer in a specific area of interest.  Some examples include cost-effective shopping for the school, weekend classroom cleaning, maintenance of the facility, prep work for class projects, etc.  Everyone’s cooperation and help is essential for a smooth running of the school.
